Are you facing gender workplace discrimination?
  |   Apr 18, 2022  |  Discrimination And Harassment

Discrimination of any kind is illegal in California workplaces. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t take place. If you face gender discrimination, it’s important to know what to do.

What is workplace gender discrimination?

There are many different types of workplace discrimination. Gender discrimination is one of them. It is a type of discrimination that can affect anyone based on their gender, gender identity or sexual orientation. Often, women are the targets of it. A person can normally tell if they are being discriminated against by a boss, manager or supervisor based on the way they are treated compared with their coworkers.

What are some examples of workplace gender discrimination?

There are telltale signs of workplace gender discrimination. A person might find that she is not given a raise or promotion she deserves while a male coworker who hasn’t been working in the company as long receives those perks instead.

A woman might be let go or not hired because of her gender or her salary might be reduced because she has recently had a baby and can’t work as much overtime as she did prior to her pregnancy. Meanwhile, if a male coworker just became a father but has the same pay he had before or is earning even more, it makes an obvious case for discrimination against the woman.

Sometimes, the employer might refuse a woman employee’s request to add her husband to her health insurance. If the employer argues that the employee’s husband should have his own good health insurance benefits and refuses, it’s considered gender discrimination.

If an employee is transgender and the employer or anyone else at work refers to them by the name they previously used before their transition, it’s also considered workplace gender discrimination.

Any of these situations warrant a discrimination claim being filed. Sometimes, discrimination is obvious, but other times it might be veiled. If you have faced gender discrimination at work, fight back for your rights.
