James R. Kristy is the principal trial attorney at The Kristy Law Firm, which he founded in 2003.
Mr. Kristy graduated from UCLA in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. During a 20-year career in business, he held positions in the finance departments of major corporations, including Computer Sciences Corporation and First Interstate Leasing. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Kristy concluded his business career at Santa Fe Pacific Pipelines, Inc., where he was the Manager of Insurance and Financial Planning.
A desire to directly help individuals drove James Kristy to enroll in Whittier Law School’s four-year evening program in 1996. At the time, Mr. Kristy continued to work full-time in corporate financial management.
In his second year at Whittier, the Whittier Law Review published Mr. Kristy’s article, “A Showdown between Shapiro and the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act: Infringement of the Right to Travel” (20 Whittier L. Rev. 449 (1998)). In his third year, Mr. Kristy was a Notes and Comments Editor of the Whittier Law Review; and in his fourth and final year (1999-2000), he was its Editor-in-Chief.
In his second year of law school, James Kristy served a one-semester externship with Justice Edward J. Wallin at the California Court of Appeal, Fourth Division, District Three, in Santa Ana. During his last two years of law school, Mr. Kristy clerked at a plaintiff’s firm that practiced insurance bad faith.
James Kristy graduated from Whittier Law School in May 2000 and became a member of the State Bar of California on November 21, 2000. During the ensuing three years, Mr. Kristy represented consumers as an associate at prestigious plaintiff’s firms, gaining litigation experience in insurance bad faith, construction defect, product liability, wrongful death, and catastrophic personal injury cases.
Since founding The Kristy Law Firm in 2003, James Kristy has devoted his practice to representing consumers in lawsuits against insurers and other corporations. He has successfully represented over 100 clients in his career. At The Kristy Law Firm, he has recovered millions of dollars for his clients through trials, arbitration, and settlements. Mr. Kristy feels profound satisfaction and pride in achieving justice for his clients.
Since 2005, James Kristy has served continuously as a Member of the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), the nation’s largest local association of plaintiff attorneys. In 2008 and 2009, he served as Chairman of CAALA’s Education Committee, which produces continuing-legal-education programs for consumer lawyers. Mr. Kristy also speaks at and chairs seminars for lawyers, including seminars at CAALA’s annual Las Vegas Convention, the largest convention of local trial lawyers in the United States. In 2008, Mr. Kristy spoke at the Annual Convention of the State Bar of California. Mr. Kristy is an Associate Editor of The Advocate, CAALA’s monthly law journal. He is also a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California and the American Association for Justice.
Mr. Kristy is a member of the California State Bar, United States District Court, Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In December 2010, James Kristy was honored to be personally sworn in by Chief Justice John G. Roberts as a member of the Supreme Court of the United States of America, during a session of the Court.
